Morocco is a liberal and safe country
Unlike other islamic countries, Morocco is a liberal and safe place. Alcohol is permitted, the people are friendly and respectful. You can check the current travel safety recommendations with your foreign department . In 25 years I have traveled to Morocco about 20 times and had only positve encounters: you will benefit from my experience during your visit.
Off the beaten track
Ski touring in Morocco is a great way to experience this country and its people far away from the tourist hotspots. The Berber people are very open towards foreign visitors and in their small mountain villages you will quickly become part of daily life. However, you cannot expect the standards of four-star hotels if you want to experience authentic Morocco.
Ski-level and fitness
You must be experienced in ski touring, necessary skills include sure-footedness, safe off-piste skiing, kick-turns and a good general fitness. The terrain is fairly challenging, crampons must be used frequently and short sections may require basic climbing skills.
Hiking times: 4 to 5 hours, Vertical distances: 1.000 to 1.600 m. Descents: challenging terrain in spring snow.
We will be based in the small mountaineering village of Imlil, located at an elevation of 1.740 m and approximately 65 km from Marrakech. This small Berber community has been making a living of mountain tourism since the sixties.
