Equipment for Ski Touring in Iran

Depending on the airline, you have 20 to 40 kg luggage allowance. We recommend checking-in one large expedition style bag and to use your backpack as carry-on luggage. The ski bag must be checked-in separately as oversized luggage. Don’t forget to book this extra sports luggage with your flight.

Clothing:
  • Wind and waterproof outdoor jacket (Gore-Tex or similar material)
  • Hardshell pants (Gore-Tex or similar)
  • Softshell ski touring or trekking pants (Schoeller-fabric)
  • Down or primaloft jacket
  • Fleece jacket
  • Two pairs of gloves, light and heavy (e.g. thin gloves and mittens with hardshell)
  • Warm woolly hat or fleece beanie
  • Baseball cap or bandana
  • Three pairs of wool ski socks (recommended: Smart Wool merino socks)
  • Sufficient sports underwear (Smart Wool merino underwear)
  • Mountaineering boots suitable for crampons
  • Aproach shoe or lightweight low cut trekking shoes
  • Sandals
  • Suitable clothing for sightseeing and city trips in a warm climate. Islamic dress code for women: head scarf, long sleeves, ankles and feet must be covered, dresses should not be tight fitting at the waist. For men: no shorts but short sleeves are acceptable.

  • Backpack with ski mount (40-50 l capacity, avalanche airbag optional)
  • Touring ski boots with profiled rubber sole
  • Climbing skins (recommended type: glue-on skins with tension fastening)
  • Ski poles (recommended type telescopic)
  • Ski helmet
  • Modern avalanche transceiver (beacon) with fresh batteries
  • Avalanche shovel
  • Avalanche probe
  • Crampons with anti-balling plates
  • Facial mask or buff
  • Two person Bivouac sack (Bivi-Bag)
  • First aid kit with rescue blanket (space blanket)
  • Torch or headlamp with spare batteries
  • Sunglasses and ski goggles
  • Sunscreen and lip balm  (minimum SPF 30)
  • Thermos flask or other bottle (min 1l)
  • Pocket knife or Leatherman-tool
  • Torch or headlamp + spare batteries
  • Sleeping bag  (-10° C comfort rating or better)
  • Sleeping pad
  • Lighter
  • Toiletry kit: towel, soaf, shower gel, toothbrush, toothpaste, toilet paper etc.
Other items:
  • Minimum of 400 Euros or US Dollars cash for emergency plus extra money for private expenses and souvenirs (persian carpet). No ATM and no credit cards are accepted in Iran!
  • Passport, copy of passport
  • Travel medical kit (for your needs)
  • Snacks for 6 day on the mountain (energy bars or dried fruits or nuts;  recommended: one large salami, ½ kg of mature cheese, 1kg of muesli)
  • Ski bag
  • Large travel bag with lock
  • Small backpack for city trips
